The Lion King Theatre Breaks in Edinburgh
Theatre breaks have finally gone on sale for Disney’s The Lion King, which opens at the Edinburgh Playhouse on Saturday 12 October 2013. The Scottish premier of this smash hit musical, that is still running at London’s Lyceum Theatre after 14 years, will run for three run spanning Autumn half term and the Christmas break – so lots of opportunities to get to Edinburgh to see the show.
The Lion King is the stage musical adapted from Disney’s 1994 animated classic.
Set on the plains of the Serengeti it tells the story of Simba’s epic journey to become King of the Pride Lands as he battles against thge evil Scar. The musical features a magical collaboration between Elton John and Tim Rice who wrote such memorable songs as “Circle of Life,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Hakuna Matata.”
The African rhythms, breathtaking costumes, mind blowing puppetry and superb story telling were all bought to life in the superb direction of Julie Taymor and from the unforgetable opening scene to the final curtain, Edinburgh audiences of all ages will be blown away by this unique musiucal.
The Lion King and Hotel Packages
We have both top price and budget seats for the show and our theatre and hotel breaks include a range of central Edinburgh hotels to suit all budgets. From the two star Travelodge – with breaks starting at just £98 per person* including bed, breakfast and a ticket for the show, to the five star Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa where packages start at a mere £172 pp!
But our top pick is the 4 star Carlton Hotel on North Bridge in the centre of Edinburgh. Situated at the East end of Edinburgh’s main shopping street, Princes Street, it is also just a few minutes walk from the Playhouse Theatre and with breaks starting at just £107.50 per person it is a great deal for a central four star hotel.
Actually, if the truth be told, thanks to the compact nature of Edinburgh centre, most of our hotels are within walking distance of most of Edinburgh! The Royal Mile, the Castle, Grassmarket and Holyrood Palace. And if you don’t fancy the walk the buses are great too (although don’t ask the locals about the tram system!)
The Lion King will be a very popular event – as was Phantom of the Opera and Dirty Dancing last year and Cats and Hairspray will be this year, so although it seems a little early to be planning next winter, we strongly suggest that you book your Lion King Theatre Break early as it will be a sell out come opening night.
* All prices are based on 2 people sharing a twin or double room and include service and VAT at 20%.
