Hairspray Tickets and Hotel Breaks in Edinburgh
Tracy Turnblad came to town!
Yes, Hairspray the musical toured around the UK and in September 2013 it came to Edinburgh for two weeks of big hair, big heart, hit songs and good times!
Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, our big heroine with the big hair and big heart, teenager Tracy Turnblad, has a dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show.
As well as being a swinging hit musical with show-stopping 1960s-style dance music, Hairspray is also a social commentary on the injustices of much of American society in the 1960s as Tracy’s heart lets her see beyond the colour of people’s skin at a time when that is all much of America could see!
Interestingly the musical is set in the year that John Howard Griffin’s “Black Like Me” was first published, a commentary on his month of living as a black man in America’s deep south.
***** ‘The ultimate feel good show’
***** ‘The most happy, funny, sunny show in town’
