In our pages and on the booking engine for Edinburgh Breaks and Edinburgh Hotels you will find everything from Travelodges to 5 star deluxe hotels.

I’ve stayed at the Travelodges and at the 4 star Apex Hotels and been impressed by both. I’ve visited the 5 star hotels and spent large amounts of my life wandering around Edinburgh in between!

The centre of Edinburgh is very compact, although not many city maps do justice to the number of steps you find yourself walking up and down as you walk around this beautiful place! You can usually see where you want to get to, but the view can be quite daunting!

Still, you should walk. Although there are buses and taxis and trams (well one day soon maybe!), the walking brings you closer to the city.

So back to the hotels.

Of course my eye is always drawn to the smaller hotels, with a bit of character – and if they go by the name of Hotel du Vin then all the better: OK not exactly Scottish, but a lovely little hotel set in the picturesque Old Town: I will grin and bear the 4 star comfort for one or two nights!

With two day/one night theatre breaks including tickets and full Scottish breakfast starting at around £100pp that is not a bad deal for a wonderful city break in this beautiful city.

Mystery Non Refundable Hotels offer great savings on the regular cost of the hotel BUT 100% cancellation charge applies. We cannot tell you the name of the hotel until booking confirmation but for the money you can’t go far wrong – pick a 4 star mystery hotel if you don’t want to push your luck too much!

Otherwise Holiday Inn Edinburgh City West at 107 Queensferry Road, Edinburgh, Lothian, EH4 3HL
is a 3 Star hotel which sits just 1.5 miles from the West End (yes Edinburgh has a West End as well as London so be careful when booking a West End break in Edinburgh that it is not in fact a London Theatre Break!) and is close to Murrayfield Stadium, The Botanic Gardens and the National Gallery of Modern Art.

The Royal Scots Club Edinburgh in Abercromby Place is another 3 Star hotel and offers you the opportunity to experience the different surroundings of staying in a Club with typical Georgian old world charm.

Of course there are always the Travelodges – Cameron Toll on Craigmillar Park, Travelodge Edinburgh West End on Belford Road, Travelodge Edinburgh Haymarket and Travelodge Edinburgh Central. Great deals in basic hotels… and for a few nights of festival-going that is all I need, I don’t know about you!

The four star Malmaison or the King James hotels are great for a bit of posh and the Roxburghe Hotel in Charlotte Square has some two night deals that are worth a look. Actually a lot of hotels do 2 njight deals so do think about staying a little longer to get more bang for your buck!

The Apex Hotels are modern hotels and very central – the two in Grassmarket are especially great come festival time although they can be a bit expensive comparred to the prices at other times of the year.
Probably the best known hotel in Edinburgh is the Carlton on North Bridge – a lovely great big hotel with excellent facilities.

If you are looking for a lot of posh then Hilton and the Sheraton have excellent city centre hotels but it is the Balmoral on Princes Street that holds the winning hand: probably just on the name, but with 5 stars obviously there is a bit more than just the name!
